  1. sometimes I think that’s true, if I understand it correctly, that men can separate love from other parts of their life, while women tend to give themselves completely to their loves. Of course, that’s just a generality based on anecdotal evidence. And then, when one love is lost after a long time, men usually fall apart more than women who seem to be able to move on better.



  2. My first response is that Byron said this a LONG time ago…I’m not saying that there isn’t truth to it, but just that things might be different today than it was back then. I think that there are both men and women for whom love is only a part, or is their entire lives.

  3. I suppose I should really read it in context to understand what he was really saying. Gender roles have certainly changed and so has how people see everyday love and marriage.


  4. Byron’s quote was of a time when women loved and cared for those they loved, or led a far less rewarding life. There were far less choices for women. Today, both men and women quite often make ‘something’ their their whole existence, be it love, a career, a talent etc.

    I do think it is interesting that men do seem to struggle more with lost love, or even retirement that women.
